Michael’s New Job

My husband got a new job. He made this declaration when he got home from work. His new job is to find a new job to replace the old one from which he was laid off.

They told him they were laying him off, claiming they needed to let some people go, because work was dwindling and there wasn’t enough work to keep everyone.

At first, I was scared. But I drew a great amount of comfort from the thought that when he came home, he’d had more energy than I had seen in him in months. He was happy. Actually happy! After working this soul-crushing job for over a year, it was the first time I had seen him actually happy at the end of the day.

I was not expecting this, but thankfully I had begun preparing for this without my knowledge for some time. We have been trying to minimize and downsize our home and belongings. We have gotten all our dental work up to date. We have been making choices for our daughter that free us from needless consumption. We are ready to take on this challenge.

Our objective, in this respect, has changed significantly. Before, we wanted to get Michael a job, any job, and get him out of his old job. Our goal for me has always been for me to stay at home with our children. Now that Michael is no longer employed, we are going to work on getting him a job that will make him happy, challenge him creatively, and provide for our family.

Another challenge has come to our family. We look forward to it, anticipating a change that we believe God is choosing to help better our lives.

Secretly I wish my husband would be “encourage” to find a better job in a similar fashion. He just always seems to busy with his current job to find a different one. Wishing you both all the best.

Thanks Faith! We had been praying for a new job for months now. This isn’t what we were expecting, of course, but hey! It works! We have a lot of challenges in this situation but we are trusting that we have everything we need.
